Sue Hassel was raised on a farm in the midwest, has sung professionally in Europe and the U.S.  She holds a Bachelors and Masters Degree in applied voice.  Originally, her voice was considered to be a hoch dramatischer sopran and early on she was featured singing the Ballo Amelia, Aida, Lady Macbeth, Turandot; and with orchestra in the heroic Wagner and Strauss excerpts.

The heroic repertoire turned out to be a starting place for Ms. Hassel. Since her days in Europe, she has settled in New York City and has been fortunate enough to sing a far more varied repertoire including the roles of Aida, Tosca, Norma, with many concerts featuring the leggiera soprano repertoire including Queen of the Night (concert performance of Zauberfloete), Philine, Ophelia, Anna Bolena,Traviata.  In recital Ms. Hassel has ranged through some of the greatest song cycles: Frauen Lieben und Leben, Dichterliebe, Liederkreis, Kindertoten Lieder.  Ms. Hassel is now focusing on Handel, Haydn, Bach (both oratorio and opera) as well as the high lyric Mozart rep; the songs of Rorem, Libby Larsen, Debussy, Faure, Schubert and Hugo Wolff.

In the last four years Ms. Hassel has branched out into concert/recital work as SUE HASSEL, SOPRANO & PIANO.  In July 2008, Ms. Hassel debuted as a solo pianist with an all-Liszt recital featuring the B-Minor Sonata, the Dante Sonata and Weinen, Klagen variations with three encores: Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody No. 6, Lorelei, Funerailles. And in summer of 2009, Ms Hassel performed an all Busoni recital: St. Anne's, Sonata in F, Fantasia Contrapuntistica; Encores: Chaconne in D minor, War Cry, Turandot and Thais arias.
